How much does it cost to hire a men’s fashion stylist? Is it just for celebrities? Maybe you’ve thought about hiring a stylist but want to wait until you reach your ideal weight. I’m here to debunk some common myths and questions I get as a men’s stylist.

5 Personal Styling Myths

1. It's too expensive

Hiring a stylist is an investment, but it’s likely not as expensive as you think. It’ll cost between $150-$350 CAD to work with me. Sometimes that’s in addition to a clothing budget, and sometimes new clothes are not necessary, and I can provide style advice using pieces you already have in your closet.

2. It's only for celebrities

You don’t need to be a celebrity to want to look good. You deserve to feel good in your clothes every day, especially the days you’re going into the office for work or meeting friends on weekends. The average male spends ~$600 CAD on clothes every year (not including shoes!). Hiring a stylist ensures you’re picking the right sizes, colours, and styles to make your clothes last longer.

3. I have to get all new clothes

Nope. You may already have an impressive wardrobe with all the staples, plus some extras, in your closet. Sometimes a new look is a lesson in colours, styling, and accessories. On a video call, we would meet to discuss your favourite pieces, what you should keep or toss, and what you’re looking to add. I would share tips on how to put pieces together, and then after our call, I’d send you inspo images you could use day-to-day to put together outfits with what you already have in your closet!

4. I'll have to start keeping up with trends

Not if you don't want to. The best part about men’s clothing is it’s not complicated and rarely very trendy. A good outfit today could work for years. Of course, I would recommend trending styles depending on your personal preferences and you could choose to try them or leave them.

5. I'm planning to lose/gain weight

There's no reason why you shouldn’t look good while you do it. You don’t have to wait for your ideal weight for a wardrobe refresh. Investing in clothes that fit you well may be the confidence boost you need to help you work toward your weight goals.
